چکیده
NEW DRUG APPROVALS Zurampic for Hyperuricemia Associated With Gout The FDA has approved lesinurad (Zurampic, AstraZeneca) to treat high levels of uric acid in the blood (hyper uricemia) associated with gout. Lesinurad is to be used in combination with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor (XOI), a type of drug approved to reduce the pro duction of uric acid in the body. Lesinu rad helps the kidney excrete uric acid by inhibiting the function of transporter pro teins involved in uric acid reabsorption. The safety and efficacy of lesinurad (in combination with an XOI) were evaluated in three randomized, placebocontrolled studies involving 1,537 subjects who were treated for up to 12 months. The subjects treated with lesinurad and an XOI showed reduced serum uric acid levels compared with subjects given placebo. Source: FDA, December 22, 2015

Introduction: hyperuricemia and gout.
The pathophysiology of gout is well understood, and effective treatments for acute gout and hyperuricemia leading to gout are widely available. Nonetheless, many patients suffer from severe tophaceous gouty arthritis, adverse effects of medications for gout, and inadequate treatment of hyperuricemia. The incidence of gout is rising in both men and women. The diagnosis and treatment of gout are ...
متن کاملErratum to: Lesinurad, a novel, oral compound for gout, acts to decrease serum uric acid through inhibition of urate transporters in the kidney
BACKGROUND Excess body burden of uric acid promotes gout. Diminished renal clearance of uric acid causes hyperuricemia in most patients with gout, and the renal urate transporter (URAT)1 is important for regulation of serum uric acid (sUA) levels. The URAT1 inhibitors probenecid and benzbromarone are used as gout therapies; however, their use is limited by drug-drug interactions and off-target ...

Gout is an acute and chronic inflammatory disorder associated with high morbidity and impaired quality of life. There has been a substantial increase in the prevalence and incidence of gout in recent years. Novel diagnostic and therapeutic options have provided new insights into the pathogenesis and management of hyperuricemia and gout in the last decade. This clinical review aims to summarize ...
متن کاملFebuxostat: A Novel Agent for Management of Hyperuricemia in Gout
Gout is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the body, associated with painful arthritis, tophi and nephropathy. The most frequently used pharmacologic urate lowering strategies involve reducing urate production with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor and enhancing urinary excretion of uric acid with a uricosuric agent. Urate lowering agents are limited in number, availa...
متن کاملEssence of the revised guideline for the management of hyperuricemia and gout.
Hyperuricemia and gout are common diseases that can be treated by general and family physicians, but with the wide range of diagnosis and treatment departments that treat them, these are diseases for which guidelines are demonstrably useful. Published in 2002 by the Japanese Society of Gout and Nucleic Acid Metabolism in 2002, the Guideline for the Management of Hyperuricemia and Gout was subse...
